01090201

Photo of Henry Armstrong & Hugh Bradley Original Photo dated to the 1940's of Henry Armstrong, Alias Homicide Hank, and Sports Editor for the New York Post Hugh Bradley. After doing some research on Henry Armstrong we became very impressed with his record and career. Henry was born on Dec. 12, 1912 in Columbus, Mississippi and at a very young age, his family moved to St. Louis Missouri. His professional career started on July 27, 1931 against Al Iovino and ended on Valentines day, 1945 to Chester Slider. Henry's Record was 151 wins in which 101 were from KO's, only 21 Lost fights and 9 Drawn. Total fights 181. Henery was a holder of 3 Championships in the Featherweight class, Lightweight class and Welterweight class. New York Times wrote this about his Jan. 24, 1940 fight,,,,, Henry Armstrong vs Pedro Montanez in New York City for World welterweight title. "For savagery and bruising fighting, virtually all of it displayed by the irrepressible Armstrong, this was a fight that has seldom been excelled. No welterweight, no man near Armstrong's inches or poundage could have survived the blistering firepower". Montanez was down for the first time in his career in the 4th. Down again at the end of the 8th, he had to be carried to his corner. The referee stopped the fight after 47 seconds of the 9th round. (New York Times). Henry passed away on October 22, 1988. This original photo measures 8 x 10 inches and was part of a Veteran Boxer's private collection in the New York Area. A RARE photo of real champ in his time. Top left hand corner has a small repair done, other than that the photo is in excellent condition. Thanks for stopping by Blue Ridge Antiques & Collectibles!!
